Memorial Day - By Marc Marais

MEMORIAL DAY

Bow your heads this sacred day, Americans All,
join and honor with your silence, O you mighty Host
that distant Bugler's reverent tribute at the Last Post
to the Him and Her you knew so well and loved the most
who so nobly answered the Nation's need for its call,
now in the Ranks of the Unknowns who fell and may yet fall.

Then, as the Bugler's last note fades and bravely dies,
raised proudly your heads to those For Spacious Skies
shining all the brighter through your tears shed in sorrow
for Yesterday's heroic veterans, the wounded and the dead
whose undying legacy is the promise of that Greater Tomorrow
where you and yours shall live in national safety and pride
because of the many who so gallantly served and survived,
who grieve with you for those comrades who bravely died,
but through you and yours will forever stand, Immortal, Tall
in this, our grateful Nation's Living Memorial Hall.
