*Big to-do about "missing weapons in Iraq" - NY Times politics?
NBCNEWS reported: "The 380 tons of powerful conventional explosives were
already missing back in April 10, 2003 -- when U.S. troops arrived at the
installation south of Baghdad! An NBCNEWS crew embedded with troops moved in
to secure the Al-Qaqaa weapons facility on April 10, 2003, one day after the
liberation of Iraq. According to NBCNEWS, the HMX and RDX explosives were
already missing when the American troops arrived. It is not clear why the
NYTIMES failed to inform readers how the cache had been missing for 18
months - and was reportedly missing when troops first arrived." (Wadda
ya
mean "Not clear"?????? Seems the original "report" for this
comes out of the
U.N. just a couple weeks ago and was "leaked" to the press. And in
case it
escapes anyone's attention, this 380 tons then went out under the nose of
the U.N. inspectors. You know, the one's looking for WMD...)

The U.S. military reports a 30 percent increase in insurgency attacks during
the second half of October. U.S. officials attributed the increase in
attacks to the Islamic fast month of Ramadan. The officials said the Iraqi
insurgency, particularly that of Sunnis, has been bolstered by fresh funding
and orders from within and outside of Iraq. (...so what are your civilian

*Re Previous Bulletin: Election Determines Fate of Nation
"First, it is disheartening, Henny Penny, to see that so many people have
so
little faith in the American system of government, and the American way of
life. Second, we have gone through this same thing in the past with Johnson
and Goldwater, whom we might reasonably compare with Bush and Kerry. Just as
LBJ relentlessly pursued a hopeless and unnecessary war against Vietnam,
Bush is sending more and more US troops to die in Iraq. Every student of
history knows that Goldwater, like Kerry today, criticized the insufficient
way the Pentagon was fighting the Vietnam war (although his suggested use of
nuclear weapons in Southeast Asia doomed the Arizona senator's presidential
bid). Goldwater would have said the same things about Bush's Iraq War as
does Kerry -- not enough men, not enough firepower, et cetera. Goldwater is
similar to Kerry in other ways, too, including support for civil rights,
women's rights, gay rights, et cetera. He also famously condemned trading
liberty for security. The bottom line is that we will survive whomever is
elected in November." Richard

*Kerry Offers Global 'Guarantee': No More Terror Attacks
Monday, Oct. 25, 04: John Kerry claimed Monday that if he's elected
president he'll prevent all future terrorist attacks both inside the U.S.
and around the world. "I do know that America will be safe [from terrorist
attack] under my leadership," Kerry boasted to NBC "Today Show"
host Katie
Couric. A skeptical Couric interrupted, "But can you really, Senator, make
that guarantee in all honesty that America will be safe under all
circumstances?" Kerry responded: "We won World War II. We won the
Cold War.
We know what we can do when we put our minds to it. We haven't done a third
of the things that we need to do to win the war on terror." In the next
breath Kerry broadened his pledge, saying, "I think you can make the world
safe if we begin to deal with the problems - not just using military muscle
in certain parts of the world, but also use our economic power, our ideals."

*Iraq
- Oct. 23, 04: Multinational forces captured a "senior leader" from
terrorist Abu Musab al Zarqawi's inner circle today in a raid on a safe
house in Fallujah, Iraq. Intelligence sources said the individual had
recently moved up "to take a critical position" in Zarqawi's network
as a
result of multinational forces capturing or killing other associates. Before
that, he had held a "relatively minor role." Forces also detained
five other
terrorists in the raid.
- A suspected car bomb killed three Iraqis and wounded two Australian
soldiers at about 8 a.m. on Monday when it exploded near the Australian
Embassy in an upscale district of Baghdad. About three hours later, one
Estonian soldier was killed and five others were wounded in western Baghdad
when their convoy was attacked by a homemade bomb set along the roadside.
News agencies reported that a group linked to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the Al
Qaeda sympathizer whom American officials blame for many of the car bombs
and beheadings in Iraq, took credit for the attack on the Australians in a
posting on the Internet. After the bomb exploded, American tanks, Humvees
and Bradley fighting vehicles arrived and set up a cordon around the scene.
U.S. soldiers trained their rifles at Iraqi onlookers, as some neighborhood
residents who came to see the aftermath of the bomb were still wearing
pajamas. U.S. soldiers walked a bomb-sniffing dog around the blast area,
searching for other explosives, as Humvees with speakers warned Iraqis to
leave in case another blast occurred. An official in Canberra with the
Australian military, Mike Hannan, said the attack occurred when "a security
detachment patrol of armored vehicles was engaged by an improvised explosive
device that was hidden in a vehicle," according to Agence France-Presse.
"We
know that two of the three Australian vehicles were damaged and three of our
people suffered non-life-threatening injuries," Hannan said, adding that
the
most serious injuries were from facial wounds.

"No".
- Iraq's interim prime minister blamed the U.S.-led coalition Tuesday for
"great negligence" in the ambush that killed about 50 soldiers heading
home
after graduation from a U.S.-run training course, and warned of an
escalation of terrorist attacks. Underscoring the warning, insurgents made a
new threat of nationwide attacks against U.S. and Iraqi forces "with weapons
and military tactics they have not experienced before" if American forces
try to storm the militant stronghold of Fallujah.

97% of the total. Results show that Hamid Karzai is leading with 55.4% while

*Kerry Campaign Linked to Fund-raiser for Terror Group
NewsMax.com's Fr. Michael Reilly says federal election records show a
suspicious link between the Kerry campaign and a controversial fund-raiser
for an organization with terrorist ties. As this bitter and partisan
election draws to a close, a new bombshell may spell trouble for Senator
Kerry. Evidently, he has accepted campaign contributions from the chief
fund-raiser for an Albanian terrorist organization known as the Kosovo
Liberation Army [KLA, or UCK in Albania]. According to federal election
records, Florin Krasniqi, a KLA fund-raiser who had raised over $30 million
for the group, contributed $2,000 to the Kerry campaign this past July. The
KLA, whose main objective is to separate Kosovo from Serbia, reportedly has
ties to the Iranian government and Osama bin Laden. In 1999, the Washington
Times obtained intelligence documents indicating that al-Qaida has trained
and financially supported the KLA. The Jerusalem Post offered further
documentation in 1998, indicating that "Selected groups of Albanians were
sent to Iran to study that country's version of militant Islam," and that
"millions of dollars have been funneled through Bosnia and Albania to buy
arms for the KLA. The money is raised from both Islamic governments and from
Islamic communities in Western Europe, particularly Germany." The leader
of
the KLA is a man named Hashim Thaci, and he attended the Democratic Party>
'> s convention in Boston earlier this year. After attending the convention,
he raved that "It was a very successful visit at the Democratic Convention,
where the PDK [Thachi's political party] had been invited as a guest. It was
confirmed once again that the Democratic authorities would recognize and
respect the will of the people of Kosovo for self-determination." Dutch
television station VPRO produced a documentary called "De Brooklyn
Connectie," which features KLA members attending a John Kerry fund-raiser,
making generous contributions, and smuggling weapons for use in Kosovo
against U.N. and American forces. Steven

*Egyptian bombings follow up....
A Palestinian angered by Israeli-Palestinian violence plotted and then died
in the nearly simultaneous car bombings of a Sinai hotel and tourist camp
that killed at least 34 people this month, the Egyptian government said
Monday in announcing the arrests of five Egyptians. Two other suspects
remained at large, the Interior Ministry said. The Taba Hilton was heavily
damaged in the worst of the blasts. Two other car bombs exploded at bungalow
campgrounds in nearby Ras Shitan, also in the Sinai Peninsula. The resorts
were packed with Israeli tourists who had traveled to the Sinai during a
Jewish holiday. The government identified the mastermind of the attacks as
Ayad Said Saleh, a Palestinian who had lived in the Sinai and who died in
the Oct. 7 explosion at the hotel along with a fellow plotter, Egyptian
Suleiman Ahmed Saleh Flayfil. The pair, identified through DNA testing, were
trying to leave the scene but their timed explosives detonated prematurely,
the statement said. (I'll bet they just hate it when that happens)

*Portable hospital offers preparedness for bioterrorism attack
The Nevada Hospital Association recently concluded the nation's first
civilian test of a rapidly-deployable portable hospital designed for
responding to large numbers of patients resulting from a bioterrorist attack
or natural disaster. Called a Disaster Medical Facility, the freestanding
portable hospital was designed to the NHA's specifications by BLU-MED
Response Systems. Featuring a 50-bed ward capacity, the facility is
completely self-sufficient and equipped to support advanced-level medical
care -- including trauma and surgical services -- within 24 hours of an
event. The deployment proved the practicality of the hospital for community
disaster preparedness. The basic 50 bed facility is modular in nature,
allowing almost unlimited expansion if, for example, a bioterrorism incident
were to result in thousands of patients in need of care. It provides the
controlled environment needed for advanced medical operations, including
maintaining a clean environment and constant temperature, whether the
facility operates during the summer or winter. Nevada is the first state to
invest in a portable disaster hospital, and plans to add more to their
preparedness program. Modeled on the rapid-response field hospital currently
in use by the U.S. military, the state hospital association's Disaster
Medical Facility is designed to become fully operational within 24 hours and
remain functional for the duration of an incident. "This first exercise
worked even better than we could have expected," said Christopher Lake,
Ph.D., director of hospital preparedness, NHA. "Hospitals throughout the
country are grappling with the issue of how to serve a surge of patients
following a disaster. That issue could escalate dramatically if the disaster
involved bioterrorism or infectious disease, either of which could require
long-term isolation or treatment." The exercise, in conjunction with Clark
County Emergency Management, the Nevada State Health Division and the Clark
County Health District, tested all facets of deployment, mobilization and
setup. The goals of the exercise were to determine the best methods for
deployment, to mobilize the necessary equipment to one central location, and
to train a setup team and achieve operational readiness in less than 24
hours.
*Al-Qaeda Operatives Are an Ignorant Lot
Arab News: "Al-Qaeda Operatives Are an Ignorant Lot", Say Former Members.
JEDDAH, 3 October 04 - About 95 percent of Al-Qaeda operatives in the
Kingdom are ignorant and most of them do not observe basic Islamic
teachings, according to new confessions by Abdul Rahman Al-Rashoud and
Khaled Al-Farraj, former members of the terror network. Speaking to Channel
1 of Saudi Television on Friday, they said the Al-Qaeda cell made use of
stolen Saudi IDs to rent cars and houses to carry out terrorist operations.
Al-Rashoud said he was waiting for the right time to withdraw from the cell
but each time its leaders threatened him with exposure. Al-Farraj remembered
the moment when they killed his father. "I cannot imagine my father lying
in
a pool of blood in my house," he said. "Before someone enters the
group, he
thinks that it is pure. From my observations, I have seen that they are
committing actions that should not come from a group claiming jihad,"
Al-Rashoud said. "I can tell you that 95 percent of the cell's members
are
ignorant," Al-Farraj said. "They are even more ignorant than the uneducated.
They have reached a point where they call all scholars in the country
infidels," he added. Ahmad Al-Dakheel, who is head of the Shariah committee
in the Makkah cell, is guilty of such behavior. "Dakheel said that all
policemen in uniforms are infidels and asked the members to gun them down.
If imams at mosques condemn explosions and terrorist activities, then they
were also branded as infidels," Al-Farraj said. According to Al-Rashoud,
Al-Qaeda members spend a lot of money. "Most of the money came from
charitable donations," he added. They convinced donors that they were
collecting money for poor Iraqi families. During armed confrontations with
security forces, Al-Rashoud said, they escaped in cars taken from Saudis at
gunpoint. "I think this is forbidden according to my knowledge of Islam,"
Al-Farraj said. Al-Farraj also spoke about Al-Qaeda's plan to raid a housing
compound. "They bought a GMC for the operation, and it was the same car
that
was reported by the police," he said, adding that Abdul Aziz Al-Muqrin,
former leader of the cell in the Kingdom, helped in filling the vehicle with
explosives. Abdul Aziz Al-Mudaihesh carried out the operation. Al-Rashoud
said Al-Qaeda carried out terrorist operations using different names, such
as Al-Haramain Brigade and Voice of Jihad. "Actually, they are one and
the
same," he pointed out. Al-Farraj said he was surprised when Al-Muqrin said
Al-Qaeda was not responsible for the bombing of the police headquarters in
Riyadh. Al-Farraj also spoke of Aamir Al-Shehri who was injured in the
Suwaidi attack. "Al-Shehri was in the car when he was injured. He was taken
to a place which they call the clinic where only minor injuries can be
treated. Al-Shehri was injured in the stomach and there was a big cut. He
was in terrible pain. He stayed there for two months without receiving
proper treatment. I remember when I entered the room with Al-Dakheel, he
begged Al-Dakheel to find a solution to the problem. Al-Dakheel said he
could not do anything for him and left him in that condition until he died,"
Al-Farraj explained. The number of people who came to attend Aamir's funeral
was small. "I was very sorry for him. The least they could do was to give
him back to his family or take him to a good hospital. They could have sent
me to do it. The leaders of the group did not care about the members as much
as they cared about themselves," Al-Farraj said.
