Coast Guard Launch Pilot Program to Monitor Florida Coastline

Tuesday - May 25, 2004 To Tuesday - June 1, 2004

Globalization is taking executives and employees into areas where security
risks are a fact of life. Representatives of multinational corporations
are often targets for kidnapping, robberies, and other serious crimes.
While simple preventative precautions may be all that are necessary in
some locations, professional executive protection services are imperative
in others.

Wackenhut professionals provide advice, support, and protection for key
executives and other employees who face potential threats to their safety
and security in domestic or international settings. Current intelligence
is reviewed to determine the political and economic stability, terrorist
activity, street crime frequency, health hazards, etc. of each location.
Qualified protection specialists and professional drivers are assigned to
limit exposure to dangerous or unpleasant situations.

ANALYSIS: The Hawkeye program is yet another effort undertaken by the Coast
Guard to meet the additional responsibilities presented by its new homeland
security mission. It has already proven to be invaluable, especially for
achieving better monitoring conditions for its vast areas of responsibility
along the nation's coastline and waterways. South Florida is a particularly
active zone that has proven to be quite difficult to monitor due to the
constant barrage of immigrants and drug trafficking. Prior to this program,
authorities primarily relied of witness accounts and radio transmissions to
locate potentially illegal vessels heading toward the coast. DHS and the
Coast Guard will evaluate the results of the pilot and plan to implement
similar programs at ports across the country
