On Tuesday, the Federal Emergency Management Agency unveiled an online,
independent study course to help educators and first responders develop
effective emergency operations plans for the wide array of potential
emergencies that schools face. The course describes emergency management
operations, roles, and responsibilities and explains how to assess potential
hazards and how to develop and test an emergency operations plan. It
takes an all-hazards approach to emergency planning but includes a lesson
on planning for terrorism. The course takes six to eight hours; those
who successfully finish it receive a certificate.
