http://www.newsday.com Newsday "Are emergency agencies ready for a Penn Station incident even more serious than the [19 April Long Island Rail Road] train collision?" asks Newsday. If the response to that incident "is any indication, the answer is a clear yes, officials said. The Fire Department said it cooperated with other agencies and followed the procedures that have been worked out in drills for the station, which sits under Madison Square Garden-where the Republican National Convention will be held in late August.... Mayor Michael Bloomberg praised the response, but cautioned that terrorism and emergencies are unpredictable." Although there were no serious injuries, "45 fire units and 40 ambulances were used in response to the crash," and "one of the first commanders on the scene called in a code 10-60, spurring additional specialized units like haz-mat and rescue into action." |
